GRP Anti Slip Stair Tread Covers installed at Thornton College
| GRP Safety Limited have just installed their anti slip stair tread covers to two fire escape staircases at Thornton College in Buckinghamshire. The non slip tread covers that have a contrasting 55x55mm safety yellow nosing were installed over steel open mesh and steel checkerplate staircases over a 2 day period. The two staircases consisted of a total of 60 steps ranging in width from 750mm to 1000mm and included 4 landing areas that were covered with a combination of GRP anti slip stair tread covers and anti slip flat sheets all in the common black main tread with yellow highlighted nosing. Both staircases, whilst rarely used, were extremely slippery in wet and icy conditions and it was important for he College to ensure that in the case of emergency situations that the staircases offer maximum slip resistance underfoot for anybody using the staircase. |
| The main checkerplate staircase was installed using adhesive and self tapping screws. The landing areas were fitted using a stair tread cover for the leading edge and then anti floor sheets to cover the back and side of the landings, these were trimmed on site to ensure a nice tight fit around bannisters etc. The open mesh staircase was a little bit more tricky and time consuming to install due to the very small open mesh holes in the steel tread. Pre-marked holes in the GRP stair tread cover were drilled to match the hole location on the open mesh. A dome head bolt was then inserted all the way through the tread and steel and a washer and nylock nut was secured to the underside. |
